Areas of competence

With a few exceptions, such as in the area of agriculture and fisheries, the Authority's competences resemble those of the European Commission vis-à-vis the EU Member States.

The “four freedoms” - the free movement of goods, services, capital and persons - found the basis of the internal market.

The Authority also has competence in a number of related areas, including food safety, transport, public procurement, environment and energy.
