Food Safety: ESA publishes updated Country Profile for Norway

The EFTA Surveillance Authority (ESA) has today issued an updated Country Profile for Norway, following a general review mission in November 2016.

The updated Country Profile presents an overview of the current Norwegian control systems related to food and feed safety, animal health and welfare. Further, the profile presents the current status of Norway's progress in implementing recommendations issued by ESA.

The profile shows that Norway has implemented corrective actions for the majority of recommendations issued by ESA in recent years. Norwegian authorities shall follow up on recommendations still not satisfactorily addressed and work closely with ESA to address outstanding issues.

Today's update is presented in two separate documents, both to increase transparency and facilitate future information updates:

  • Part 1 describes the organisation of the Norwegian authorities and their control systems covering the whole chain of animal feed and food production.
  • Part 2 contains an overview of missions carried out by ESA in Norway since May 2010, detailing status for corrective actions regarding recommendations that were addressed during the recent general review mission.
ESA works to assure that effective and efficient official control systems, related to food and feed safety, animal health and welfare, are in place in Iceland and in Norway. An updated Country Profile for Iceland was published earlier this year.
