PR(10)22: Ten letters of formal notice sent to Iceland for failure to incorporate regulations on feed additives

31.3.2010

The EFTA Surveillance Authority has decided to deliver ten letters of formal notice to Iceland for failure to incorporate regulations on feed additives.[1] Iceland should have incorporated the regulations by 5 December 2009.

Feed additives legislation is part of the food and feed sector which has the highest number of acts incorporated into the EEA Agreement. In the next few months, Iceland will also be required to incorporate and implement a large number of additional acts in this field, including the new hygiene package.

Delivering a letter of formal notice is the first stage in infringement proceedings. If the Icelandic Government fails to take satisfactory measures within two months of receiving a letter of formal notice the EFTA Surveillance Authority may decide to deliver a reasoned opinion.
