Statement of the EFTA Surveillance Authority in the Icesave case
PR(11)64
Reports in Frettablaðið of 22 September 2011 give the impression that a decision has been taken to refer the Icesave case to the EFTA Court. That is incorrect.
The president of the Authority, Ms Oda Helen Sletnes, would like to state the following:
“No decision has been taken by the EFTA Surveillance Authority to refer the Icesave case to the EFTA Court. The Authority is awaiting the reply from the Icelandic Government to the Reasoned Opinion of 10 June 2011. The reply is due by the end of this month and the Authority will examine it in detail before deciding on further action in this case," says Oda Helen Sletnes, president of the EFTA Surveillance Authority.
Icelandic translation of the statement:
"Eftirlitsstofnun EFTA hefur ekki ákveðið neitt um hvort Icesave málinu verði vísað til EFTA-dómstólsins. ESA bíður nú eftir svari íslenskra stjórnvalda við rökstuddu áliti stofnunarinnar frá 10. júní 2011. Svarinu ber að skila fyrir lok þessa mánaðar og mun ESA skoða það gaumgæfilega áður en ákvörðun um næstu skref í málinu verður tekin," segir Oda Helen Sletnes, forseti ESA.
