Late implementation: Final warnings sent to Iceland

The Authority has delivered four reasoned opinions to Iceland concerning the late implementation of the following directives:

  • Directive 2008/98/EC, the Waste Framework Directive
  • Directive 2009/38/EC on the establishment of a European Works Council or a procedure in Community-scale undertakings and community-scale groups of undertakings for the purposes of informing and consulting workers.
  • Directive 2004/113/EC on the equal treatment between men and women in the access to and supply of goods and services.
  • Directive 2007/23/EC on the placing on the market of pyrotechnic articles.

The directives should have been implemented by 1 November 2012

A reasoned opinion is the second stage of the infringement procedure. The Authority can bring the matter before the EFTA Court if Iceland fails to comply with the reasoned opinion within two months.
