Iceland needs to improve controls over meat and milk production

ESA has published a report concluding that Iceland must improve controls to make sure that production of meat and milk meet hygienic standards.

Improvements need to ensure that areas such as training of temporary veterinary staff and supervision of hygiene requirements in food businesses are strengthened.

EEA requirements
ESA evaluated official control systems over the production of meat and milk in Iceland in October 2019. The report concludes that the official controls delivered by The Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority (MAST) are not fully in line with EEA requirements.

Action plan
Following the mission, MAST notified ESA of the immediate actions taken in response to the mission findings. In addition, MAST provided an action plan explaining how they will address ESA's recommendations.
