PR(07)33: Iceland fails to incorporate legislation on food contact materials

The EFTA Surveillance Authority has decided to send a reasoned opinion to Iceland for failure to incorporate into its legal order Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 on food contact materials. According to the Regulation, which sets up general requirements for all food contact materials, if an article is intended for food contact it shall be labelled for food contact or bear the symbol with a glass and fork. Labelling, advertising and presentation of food contact materials shall not mislead the consumer.

Iceland had until 9 July 2005 to incorporate the Regulation.

Issuing a reasoned opinion is the second stage in infringement proceedings. The EFTA Surveillance Authority could take the matter to the EFTA Court if Iceland fails to take satisfactory measures within three months of the receipt of the reasoned opinion.
