PR(07)29: Iceland fails to incorporate rules relating to detergents

The EFTA Surveillance Authority has decided to send a reasoned opinion to Iceland for failure to incorporate Regulation (EC) No 648/2004 on detergents.

Iceland should have incorporated the Regulation no later than 3 December 2005.

Regulation (EC) No 648/2004 establishes rules designed to achieve the free movement of detergents and surfactants for detergents in the internal market while, at the same time, ensuring a high degree of protection of the environment and human health.

Issuing a reasoned opinion is the second stage in infringement proceedings. The EFTA Surveillance Authority could bring the matter before the EFTA Court if Iceland fails to produce a satisfactory reply within three months of receiving the reasoned opinion.
