PR(07)42: Iceland fails to incorporate legislation on procedures for maritime security inspections

The EFTA Surveillance Authority has decided to send a reasoned opinion to Iceland for failure to incorporate Regulation (EC) No 884/2005 laying down procedures for conducting inspections in the field of maritime security.

Iceland should have incorporated the Regulation by 1 April 2007.

The Regulation details the requirements and procedures to be followed conducting inspections of  the incorporation of Regulation (EC) No 725/2004 on enhancing ship and port facility.

The purpose of the Authority's reasoned opinion is to give the State in question a last chance to take corrective measures before the Authority decides whether to bring the matter before the EFTA Court. Iceland has been given three months to take the measures necessary to comply with the reasoned opinion.
