PR(09)44: Xavier Lewis appointed as new director of Legal Affairs Directorate


The Authority has appointed Mr. Xavier Lewis as new director of its Legal and Executive Affairs Directorate.

Mr. Lewis, who has been a senior lawyer and litigator in the Legal Service of the European Commission, succeeds Mr. Niels Fenger, who departed from the Authority in March this year to take up a position as Law Professor at the University of Copenhagen. Mr Lewis will take up his position at the Authority on 15 July.


Xavier Lewis is a law graduate from both Kings's College in London and University of Sorbonne, Paris, and holds double UK and French nationality. He has more than 20 years of work experience from the European Institutions. He has mostly held positions in the Legal Service of the European Commission, but has also been working at the Directorate general of Competition and for the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg (as Legal Secretary to Advocate General Francis Jacobs). Mr. Lewis has extensive litigation experience before the European Court of Justice and the Court of First Instance. He has also appeared before the EFTA Court.
