Ólafur Jóhannes Einarsson appointed as director of Internal Market Directorate


The Authority has appointed Ólafur Jóhannes Einarsson as the new director of its Internal Market Directorate. He will take up the position on 1 May.

Mr. Einarsson will succeed Hallgrímur Ásgeirsson who left the Authority in February this year to take up a position as head of legal affairs at Landsbankinn in Reykjavik.

Ólafur Jóhannes Einarsson is a law graduate from the University of Iceland. He is Magister Juris in European and Comparative Law as well as M.Phil in Law, both from the University of Oxford, St. John's College. Previously a lawyer in private practice in Iceland, he started his career in the Authority as an officer in the Internal Market Directorate in 2004. He thereafter joined the Authority's Legal and Executive Affairs department in 2007, where he currently is Deputy Director.  

Mr. Einarsson has a broad experience in EEA law. He has dealt with several high profile cases at the Authority, and has represented the Authority several times before the EFTA Court and the European Court of Justice.
