The Authority publishes its Annual Report for 2011 in four languages

For the first time, the EFTA Surveillance Authority has published its full Annual Report in all three languages of the EEA EFTA States, Icelandic, German and Norwegian, in addition to an English version

All versions of the Annual Report are available for download from the Authority's website. An iBook version is also available.

“We hope the translations of the Annual Report will make the Authority's decision-making process more accessible for a broader public in the EEA EFTA States,” Ms Oda Helen Sletnes, President of the Authority, said.

In the last year, the Authority dealt with a number of complex cases, both with regard to infringements of the rules of the Internal Market as well as in the field of State Aid, and   imposed a significant fine for an infringement of the EEA competition rules. Several of the Authority's decisions were brought before the EFTA Court, which itself recorded 19 new cases in 2011, the highest number ever.

The Authority continued to focus on closing old cases throughout the year, which led to a decrease both in the number of old cases and the case-handling time of complaints. At the end of the year, the Authority had 501 pending cases.

The Authority will continue to strive to fulfill its mandate under the EEA Agreement and expects 2012 to be another challenging year for European co-operation. To maintain strong and relevant structures for this co-operation is in our common interest, ” Ms Sletnes said.
