Gjermund Mathisen new Director of Competition and State Aid Directorate



Gjermund MathisenOn 1 October 2014, Mr. Gjermund Mathisen will take up the post as Director of the Competiton and State Aid Directorate of the EFTA Surveillance Authority.

«With Gjermund Mathisen, the Competition and State Aid Directorate will be led by a highly skilled lawyer with extensive experience and particular insight into EU/EEA law gained from the Authority's Legal Affairs Department, from the EFTA Court and from the Legislation Department of the Norwegian Ministry of Justice. This forms a good basis for the Authority's continued work on the implementation of reforms in the field of state aid, and a number of important cases in the field of competition», said President of  the EFTA Surveillance Authority, Oda Helen Sletnes.

Gjermund Mathisen is a law graduate from the University of Oslo, Norway, with a specialisation in EU law and public international law from the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität in Heidelberg, Germany. He earned his Ph.D. on the internationalisation of Norwegian law at the University of Bergen, Norway, and he was a Legal Secretary at the EFTA Court from 2006 to 2011.

He has acted as Agent for the Authority in some 30 cases before the EFTA Court and the Court of Justice of the European Union.
