PR(01)13: The EFTA Surveillance Authority clears aid granted to airlines operating an air route between the Norwegian city of Bodø and the island of Røst

By decision last week, the Authority did not raise objections to aid amounting to approximately 1.2 mill. NOK (about € 150,000) granted by the Norwegian Government to the company CHC Helicopter Service and aid of close to 5 mill. NOK (about € 620,000) granted to Widerøe’s Flyveselskap.  The companies receive the aid for operating the route between Røst and Bodø, from 3 March to 10 May 2001 in the case of CHC Helicopter Service, and from 12 May 2001 to 31 January 2002 in the case of Widerøe’s Flyveselskap.

The aim of the aid measures has been to ensure continued service on the route as the previous operator on 29 March 2001 communicated that it had to close its operations down.  The aid will be limited in time until a new contract can be awarded following the normal proceedings for awarding public service contracts in civil aviation.
