PR(04)04: The EFTA Surveillance Authority decided today to approve the major part of a notified direct transport aid scheme in Norway

The EFTA Surveillance Authority decided today to approve a scheme for direct transport aid for enterprises in certain regions in Norway. The area comprises all of northern Norway, except for north Troms and Finnmark counties, most of Nord-Trøndelag counties, and several municipalities in Sør-Trøndelag, Møre og Romsdal and Sogn og Fjordane counties as well as the northernmost municipalities of Hedmark and Oppland counties.

The Norwegian authorities included in their notification of the scheme amongst others four municipalities (Herøy, Ulstein, Hareid and Aukra) in the county of Møre og Romsdal. These municipalities are outside the approved regional aid map for Norway. Undertakings in these municipalities cannot be eligible for regional aid. These municipalities are consequently not included in the approved transport aid scheme. With this exception the notified scheme was considered to comply with the Authority’s Guidelines on regional state aid.

The budget for the scheme is estimated at approximately NOK 200 Million (some EUR 24.5 Million) per year.
