PR(02)05: Authority’s decision not to raise objections to regional investment aid to Norwegian shipyard

The EFTA Surveillance Authority has decided not to raise objections to aid granted to the Norwegian shipyard West Contractors AS.

The aid project concerns the purchase of a new, large tower crane. The State support consists of a grant to the amount of NOK 1.5 million (approx. € 194 000) granted by the Norwegian State’s Industrial and Regional Development Fund (Statens nærings- og distriktsutviklingsfond “SND”) under the Regional Development Grant scheme, as approved by the Authority in July 2000.

The Authority has verified that the aid beneficiary is located in an area eligible for regional aid. Furthermore, it was established that the aid measure is designed to improve productivity of existing installations and remains within the aid ceiling of 12.5% of the eligible investment costs applicable to shipyards in assisted regions.

Consequently, the Authority found that the notified aid measure was in accordance with Article 7 of the Shipbuilding Regulation (Act referred to in point 1b of Annex XV to the EEA Agreement), in combination with the Authority's State Aid Guidelines on National regional aid and Aid for Research and Development.
