The EFTA Surveillance Authority today requested that Norway amend the financing regime of the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK). This request is based on a finding that the current financing system, mainly in the form of licence fee funding, is not in line with the EEA state aid rules. Read more
 

PR(09)51: Icelandic maritime transport schemes found to be incompatible with the EEA Agreement - 8.7.2009

The Authority has today closed its investigation into two schemes, a tonnage tax scheme and a refund scheme for the employment of seafarers, which had been notified by Iceland in the field of maritime transport. The Authority concluded that both schemes entail state aid measures which are incompatible with the EEA Agreement.

The Authority has today concluded that no state aid was involved in the sale of electric power by the Municipality of Notodden to the aluminum foil producer Becromal Norway AS. The conclusion is based on examination of price statistics relating to the contracts in question. Read more
 

PR(09)53: Iceland asked to amend rules on unlimited state guarantees to the National Power Company (Landsvirkjun) and Reykjavík Energy (Orkuveita Reykjavíkur) - 8.7.2009

Today, the Authority has decided to propose to Iceland that it should take the appropriate measures to eliminate any state aid resulting from the unlimited state guarantees enjoyed by two publicly owned electricity utilities in Iceland; Landsvirkjun and Orkuveita Reykjavíkur. Read more

The EFTA Surveillance Authority has today found that the direct grant of NOK 4,5 million from the Norwegian State budget and a loan guarantee by Troms County, both in favour of Norwegian Aviation College (NAC) in Bardufoss, Norway, constituted unlawful state aid within the meaning of Article 61(1) of the EEA Agreement.
