Transport State Aid: Approval of Norwegian scheme for aid to rail sidings and terminals - PR(10)39
On 1 July 2010, the EFTA Surveillance Authority approved a Norwegian aid scheme designed to encourage more freight to be transported by rail instead of by road.
The scheme will subsidise the cost of developing additional infrastructure necessary to use rail services. The subsidies are limited to 50% of the cost. The scheme has a budget of NOK 5 million for 2010 with further amounts subject to annual budget resolutions.
Using its new simplified approval procedure for the first time, the Authority concluded that the scheme involved state aid that was compatible with the EEA Agreement.
