State aid: Prolongation of media support scheme in Liechtenstein approved

Today, the EFTA Surveillance Authority has decided not to raise objection to a prolongation of the support scheme under the Liechtenstein Media Support Act. The scheme is compatible with the EEA Agreement as it aims at facilitating the preservation of media diversity and the offering of information to a small population within the European Economic Area.

The support scheme constitutes a continuation of a scheme which was approved by the Authority 20 September 2006, and which expires on 31 December 2011. The approval of the prolongation of the scheme concerns a period of six years, starting from 1 January 2012.

The aid will be administered by the Liechtenstein Media Commission and a yearly budgetary allocation of CHF 1,84 million is foreseen for the support scheme.

The Authority's decision is valid until 31 December 2017, when Liechtenstein will have to re-notify the scheme to the Authority.
