PR(09)75: Prolongation of Guidelines on State Aid for Rescuing and Restructuring Firms in Difficulty

30.10.2009

The EFTA Surveillance Authority has today decided to prolong the Chapter in its State Aid Guidelines on State Aid for Rescuing and Restructuring Firms in Difficulty, which is due to expire on 30 November 2009.

The recent economic crisis has created a difficult and unstable economic situation. Having regard to the need to ensure continuity and legal certainty in the treatment of state aid to companies in financial difficulty, the EFTA Surveillance Authority has decided to extend the validity of its existing Guidelines on State Aid for Rescuing and Restructuring Firms in Difficulty for a further three years, until 30 November 2012.

This prolongation is in line with the recent decision by the European Commission to prolong the Community Guidelines on State aid for Rescuing and Restructuring Firms in Difficulty.
