PR(07)05: The EFTA Surveillance Authority gives green light to public support for research and development projects in Norway

The Authority approved today a new scheme notified by the Norwegian authorities which foresees allocation of NOK 100 million (approx. EUR 12 million) per year from the State budget to research and development projects in Norway. The scheme is foreseen to be in operation in the period 2007 to 2015. This is the first decision adopted by the Authority on the basis of the new Guidelines for State aid for Research and Development and Innovation (see PR(07)03).

On the basis of the scheme approved today, public funding will be available to centres for research-based innovation opening for cross-border co-operation of public research bodies and private undertakings in any field of research. The Research Council of Norway will cover up to maximum 50% of the centres' annual budget, whereas the rest must be financed to a large extent through private means.
