PR(06)56: The EFTA Surveillance Authority opens the formal investigation into aid in the airline pilot education sector in Troms County

The EFTA Surveillance Authority today opened a formal investigation into aid granted in the airline pilot education sector in Troms County.

The Authority received a complaint alleging that State aid had been granted to the Norwegian Aviation College (NAC) in the form of a direct grant through the Revised National Budget as well as various monies from Troms County and the Municipality of Målselv.

After a preliminary examination of the matter, the Authority has doubts as to whether the monies destined for the airline pilot education sector in Troms County are compatible with the rules on the granting of State resources to undertakings in the market and has thus adopted a decision to open a formal investigation procedure.

A decision to open a formal investigation is without prejudice to the final decision of the Authority. The opening decision will be published in the EEA Section of and the EEA Supplement to the Official Journal of the European Union and interested parties will be invited to submit their comments within one month from the date of publication. For information purposes, the Decision will also be published on the Authority’s website:
