Monitoring Organisations

Regulation (EU) No 995/2010 on the obligations of operators who place timber and timber products on the market, as adapted to the EEA Agreement, provides for "Monitoring Organisations" to be recognised by the European Commission or the EFTA Surveillance Authority, as the case may be.

These organisations are private entities which provide EEA operators with operational due diligence systems. Operators can thus develop their own systems or use one developed by a monitoring organisation.

To become a Monitoring Organisation, candidates must send their application to the following e-mail address: registry@eftasurv.int. The EFTA Surveillance Authority charges no fees for recognition of a Monitoring Organisation.

Candidates may send applications in English. Applicants must clearly indicate in a cover letter the EEA EFTA States in which they intend to provide services. A table with a basic minimum description of a due diligence system may be found here, while the assessment tables can be downloaded here.
